all the crazy stuff we did last week.
adam and bon bon were so kind to let us take their new kayaks out for a spin. |
we had a bonfire and played an epic game of ultimate frisbee. juneau was definitely a high light of mine and spencer's stay in sitka. we loved the people we met in juneau. we felt like family when we had to say good bye. lucky for us they planned a trip to come see us in sitka over mine and bonnie's birthdays! we're so excited we can't wait. xoxo.

dinner & faux vintage serving plate
another spencer salmon special, with garlic rice and fresh veggies, topped perfectly with a delicious lemon. he's killin it at preparing the fish we've been gifted. all this fish has been for free, there is nothing better than a tasty free meal! so there are a plethora of conignment shops around sitka. there are no malls here or target, walmart, tjmaxx, nada-zip goose egg. that means sitkans will generally online shop then consign and buy more. at these consignment shops you can find an assortment of goods and just maybe you might come across a real gem. & this is were the faux vintage serving plate comes into the picture. there is a a consignment shop just up the street from where spencer and i live downtown, the white elephant aka the white e. one day when walking home from the local grocery store i happened to pass the white e and peer into it's open window where this serving plate was so delicately placed inside the shop. my heart skipped a beat while a watermelon smile grew on my face, i knew i just had to have it. much to my dismay the white e didn't open for two more days! two more days of day dreaming about that elephant and bird vintage serving plate, where did it come from, how old could it be, who donated that beautiful piece of work? the one that got away and i was reeping all the benefits! how adorable would it be in my house with my new vintage bird and tree china that i purchased just before moving to AK? i was in love. repeat was in love. on thursday the blessed day came that the white e opened. all day i was checking my clock to be the first over there to snag the masterpiece! finally the time came at 11:55 spencer and i ran to the store and there was a really long line, my heart sunk but i tried to keep my spirits high, as the others filtered in before me i kept my eyes fixed on that serving plate with the 5.00 sticker on it. i pushed my way to the window and snatched it up before anyone else could even muster up bob's your uncle! i victoriously marched to the counter put my prize down and with a smile ready to hand the woman a five dollar bill. she looked down at my beloved serving plate and gasped "who would price this at 5.00? i know i thought in my head with a smirk about to revel in my glorious find when she adds "two dollars at the most" shocked, confused and happy i handed her two one dollar bills, grabbed my find and slinked out the door assuming she would catch her mistake and make me pay more for this adorable vintage diamond in the ruff. hugging the plate i made a run for it and caught up with spencer who making his way home. right there on the corner of katilan and lincoln street i flipped over the serving plate in hopes to find something like 'made with peace and love in 1969' or 'barefoot in the kiln' signed with a groovy signature, nope, ikea. ikea. i should have paid .25.

presents from philip
van winkle & sons
i just can't get the hang of blogging from my iphone. i tried to add text to this one and it just didn't work out for me. so here we have a world famous crab and rice dinner from van winkles & sons (we've blogged about this restaraunt before) last visit we ate a delicious dinner of halibut. this time we decided to be a little fancy and went with the dungeness crab. this crab is smaller than a king but the meat is lighter and sweeter, and oh so delicious. & we ended this delicious meal with a bang, the peanut butter bombe. enough said. i know i blog about food a lot, but it's my passion, my favorite hobby and i just love food oh so much. xo.
we love our days off
yesterday we went out for a nice little bike ride to john brown beach, much to our dismay the beach was closed. instead we played a round of horseshoes just outside of the beach grounds. spencer won because naturally i gave up and tried to soak up some rays. we love our days off.

we went to harry potter midnight showing! such a good time with good people too! i loved the movie (although i've never read the books and was completely lost in part 1 i thought this one was extremely well done and captivating) i didn't think i would be able to stay awake but i think the 10lbs of candy i consumed helped a little, i was wide awake the entire movie! *************************SPOILER ALERT************************** i can't believe harry potter dies! i thought i was dreaming! you know who scared the you know what out of me. i don't like him one bit. they did such a good job making him look as evil and scary as possible. now i can't walk down the hall to go to the ladie's room by myself anymore, i wake spencer up so he can protect me! over all i just love going to midnight movies, harry potter was good but nothing beats the midnight showings of all three lord of the rings, once with jeff and jon, i think, we didn't get out of the movie until 4 am! that was awesome. in harry potter there was one scene if you've seen it already you'll know what i'm talking about where you want to scream "YOU GO GIRL!" just like jodee did in the 3rd lord of the ring's midnight showing! so many good memories. love this place and i especially love the people here.

flyin high
leaving sitka, what a beautiful little city.
we zigzagged through this valley
coming home. you know you are in sitka when you see the lighthouse and are about to land on the sketchiest runway in america. sitka was actually featured in a magazine this past month for having the scarriest runway to land in america. you land right after the water ends and stop right before the water begins again. it's a pretty freaky first flight if you ask me. but the adorable little airport with all the taxidermied animals everywhere and a little window to eat in called the "nugget" will definitely make up for the hyperventilation and stroke you might have experienced on the landing, i'm sure of it. we sure enjoyed the plane tour and just love brittany. i always here her and spencer making jokes and laughing all the time together. and lucky for us, she is going to boise state and has promised to visit us in utah! we love the people we have met here in sitka. the more we meet the more we love.
here's to love, cheers!
